Area 15 Speech Contest
Saturday 31st October is the Area 15 online speech contest. These contests happen every year and they are a chance for the clubs to compete against each other.
Anyone is welcome to attend, whether they are a member or not. You will see some of the best speakers in the area performing.
The following clubs will be competing:
Headingley Speakers
Bradford Speakers
White Rose Speakers
Leeds City Toastmasters
During the competition, a speaker from each club will present. The judges will vote anonomously for the best speaker. This speaker will then compete against the other Areas in the Division contest.
After the Division contest, there is the District contest. Judges in each contest vote for the best speaker, and that speaker progresses further and further until they compete in the international competition.
The judges are selected before the contest begins, but they remain anonomous throughout. This helps maintain the integrity of the judging process. A tie breaker judge is also selected before the contest begins, but their vote only counts when there is a tie from the other judges. If there is not a tie, then their vote is not counted.
The votes are counted separately from the judges, and by different people. The counters are known during the contest, as they have to go to a separate area to count the votes.
There are many rules regarding the contest, but these exist so that the integrity of the contest remains, and only the best speakers go forward.
